Hare Krishna everyone, we had our 61st Bhakti Vriksha class on Friday 12/23/2016 conducted by HG Sundarnath Prabhu Das at Amit Prabhu and Ekta Mataji home and below are the points related to Verse 2.63 we discussed.

  • In Verse 2.63 the supreme personality of Godhead said; From anger, complete delusion arises, and from delusion bewilderment of memory. When memory is bewildered, intelligence is lost, and when intelligence is lost one falls down again into the material pool.
  • This is in continuation of answers to question asked by Arjuna in 2.54.
  • In 2.54 Arjuna asked Krishna;O Krishna, what are the symptoms of one whose consciousness is thus merged in transcendence? How does he speak? And what is his language? How does he sit and how does he walk?
  • In verse 2.55 and 2.56, Krishna is answering the first question (what are the symptoms of one whose consciousness is merged in transcendence?).
  • In verse 2.57 , Krishna is answering 2nd question (how does a self realized person behaves?).
  • In verse 2.58 – 2.63, Krishna is answering 3rd question (how does a self realized person conducts his/her senses?).
  • 2.58 -2.61 Krishna is telling what a self realized person does and 2.62 and 2.63 he is telling what will happen if one doesn’t conduct his/her senses in Krishna’s service.
  • Krishna is telling one who engages his/her senses in Me; his/her senses will not be disturbed by anything.
  • Sundarnath Prabhuji asked a question here; Is Krishna proud of Himself that’s why he is telling to engage senses onto Him or serve Him?
  • Answer is; because that is the reality; he is not proud but he is just saying the reality; that he is the God and source of everything and we need to connect to him for ultimate happiness. He is source of everything, he is source of us.
  • Once you are connected to Krishna , you are connected to source.
  • “Dhyayato Visya pupsa” meaning  if one is not connected to Krishna then that person is always contemplating.
  • The nature of lust is such that its always going to be unfulfilled.
  • First of all there is craving for sense gratifying object and once we get it then for a while there is sense gratification and after that there is something else we are attracted to hence we go into suffering again.
  • Going back to crux of the verse, when one gets angry then the anger consumes the memory of the mind hence the memory required by intelligence to function is not there; hence the person is not able to distinguish between right and wrong which causes confusion in mind.
  • Restraining sense is not wrong; example when one is flying the kite then as long as the  kite is attached to string it can fly but as soon as that connection is broken the kite feels complete freedom for a while but then eventually falls on ground.
  • Bhagvad Gita is spoke 5000 years back but everything mentioned in it is still relevant.
  • From anger of a pure devotee something good comes out. Example Narad Muni gave curses to Nalakuvera and Mani Griva and they got the birth in front of Nandbaba’s home and ultimately got liberation.

Hanuman got angry on Ravana and burnt the Lanka.

  • Only conditioned soul can get something right out of their anger we cannot get anything out of our anger.
  • Question and Answer

Question . What if people around us are angry all the time? How to act in such situation?

Answer – In airline the instruction we get is in case of emergency put our mask first and then help others. Same is the case here also, in this situation you have to be calm and then handle the situation. We need to understand that the person getting angry is in need of help and suffering and we need to help them.

Amit prabhu shared his experience with email, whenever he gets an email which makes him angry he wait for a while  and then responds , the reply given with calm mind is much more better then the original reply thought in angry state.

Thanks all for coming!!

Thanks to all matajis for sumptuous prasadam.

Hare Krishna
