Hare Krishna everyone, we had our 59th Bhakti Vriksha class on Friday 12/09/2016 conducted by HG Gadadhar Pandit Das at Chintan Prabhu and Chandni Mataji home and below are the points related to Verse 2.61 we discussed.
- In Verse 2.61 the supreme personality of Godhead said; One who restrains his senses, keeping them under full control, and fixes his consciousness upon Me, is known as a man of steady intelligence.
- In the world today no one talks about controlling sense , all the propaganda is to enjoy the sense to full extent. If we tell someone that they have a month to live they would like to party as hard as possible for that period.
- Sense control is part of vedic dharma, an animal can do anything and no one will say anything, e.g. if a dog poops on road no one will say anything because it’s a dog and that is what is expected from dog but if the same thing is done by a person then he/she might get a ticket because that is not expected from them.
- Controlling the senses is not easy, there are millions things we see daily which are very temping.
- Why should we control our senses?
Gadadhar prabhuji spent good amount of time on above question and asked everyone’s opinion ; some of the answers were there is no end to desire, because we are not animal we should control etc.
The answer prabhuji gave is enjoying senses to full extent will lead to a place where we can do something which is immoral.
With unlimited sense enjoyment we can become proud of ourselves and can start picking on fights without any reason , he shared below story of Dhurvasa Muni and Ambarisha Maharaj
- Dhurvasa Muni was a Rishi who had powers to go thru all the lokas but he was known for his short temper and Ambarisha Maharaj was king of the planet earth and he was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu.
- Once Dhurvasa Muni was coming to Ambarisha Maharaj’s kingdom and asked the king to prepare a feast for him and his followers.
- On the same day Ambarisha Maharaj was observing a fast and was supposed to break the fast at a certain time. Upon coming to Kingdom Dhurvasa Muni said he will go for a bath to river and come and then will have the feast.
- But since Dhurvasa Muni was delaying his bath and Ambarisha Maharaj was nearing the time to break the fast he consulted his Brahmins on what to do?
- The Brahmins advised him that he should drink water so that he breaks the fast but also didn’t eat the feast before Dhurvasa Muni , hence Ambarisha Maharaj had water to break the fast.
- Dhurvasa Muni upon coming back from bath realized that Ambarisha Maharaj broke the fast before feeding him. Dhurvasa Muni created a daemon to kill Ambarish Maharaj.
- Ambarish Maharaj stood there with folded handed accepting whatever comes next, Lord Vishnu sent Sudharshan Chakra to kill the daemon and then the chakra followed Dhurvasa Muni to kill him.
- Dhurvasa Muni went to Indra, Bramha Shiva for help but no one could help him.
- Atlast Dhurvasa Muni went to Vishnu and Vishnu said He can also not help him, He is controlled by His Bhakts so if Ambarish Maharj forgives him then only he will be saved.
- Ambarish Maharaj immediately forgave Dhurvasa Muni .
- What makes you angry? Does is resolve the problem?
- Usually someone tells us something angrily, we are not that inspired to do the work.
- Anger doesn’t accomplish anything that means we need to use our intelligence to get the work done.
- Leader get done a lot of things with calm head.
- Even if thing don’t get done or thing don’t change ten we should have the wisdom to accept that there are some things which cannot be changed.
- How Ambarish maharaj used his body to serve God, we should also do the same thing. Lets have our sense go uncontrolled for God’s service.
- When we start the devotional service it will take some time to take effect. Lord has given us the mercy to be in His service he can take away that mercy in a second if we do not cherish it.
Thanks all for coming!!
Thanks to all matajis for sumptuous prasadam.
